Data Science Dojo is looking for outstanding data scientists at all levels to join our data science team. Our data science team works on a broad range of projects in all stages of the analytics lifecycle both internal to Data Science Dojo and for our customers. While we do expect a strong background in machine learning, statistics, data pipelines, and general computer science principles, we are aware that this is not all it takes to succeed in a data scientist role. We prefer individuals who understand the relative importance of technology, business, people, process, and data in the bigger analytics puzzle.

Candidates with a genuine interest in communicating their ideas through blogs, tutorials, webinars, and trainings is a huge plus.

Job Responsibilities

We are growing our data science team to tackle two areas:

  • Internal analytics challenges in customer understanding, marketing analytics, sales/CRM analytics, social media analytics, web analytics, ETL, log mining.
  • Professional services projects for Fortune-500 companies. In the recent past some of the projects we have worked on problems in manufacturing, public/govt sector, healthcare, banking, and retail.

Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Asking the right business question and identify the real pain point. Talking to internal and external stakeholders to gather requirements.
  • Define correct metrics and KPIs and bring stakeholders onboard.
  • Obtain, clean, process and transform data - whatever it takes. You are expected to work on structured/unstructured, big/small, SQL/NoSQL and audio/video/image/text data sources. What will you do if you do not have data? Like it or not, this going to be where you will end up spending most of your time.
  • Build machine learning models for a variety of problems.
  • Configure end-to-end components of a big data pipeline
  • Present findings of analyses and explain the models to clients and class participants

Bonus points if you are interested in communicating their ideas through blogs, tutorials, webinars, and trainings.

  • Find interesting data sets and come up with innovative ways to use them in tutorials, workshops, and bootcamps
  • Curate, research, design, and write tutorials for various data science, big data, and predictive analytics tools
  • Write interesting blog posts about the happenings at Data Science Dojo and the rest of the industry
  • Curate code samples used in our workshops and bootcamps and manage the associated git repository

 

Basic Qualifications

  • A Bachelors or higher degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or Economics
  • Knowledge of some of the following: R, Python, Hive, Pig, Mahout, Java, C#
  • Relevant coursework in machine learning, data science, data mining, big data, and/or statistical inference
  • Working knowledge of big data concepts like Spark, Hadoop, MapReduce, and HDFS
  • Familiarity with data tools and services in Azure, AWS, and/or GCP eco-system is preferred
  • 1-3 years or more demonstrated experience using quantitative and qualitative data to make decisions and recommendations, to build and communicate plans, and to monitor and measure progress against goals.

  • Capability to work in the Pacific time zone.
